L.E.S.S.

Last week, my colleagues and I were invited to a Christmas lunch at L.E.S.S., the quite new bistro concept by Gert De Mangeleer and Joachim Boudens of three-star Michelin restaurant De Hertog Jan (now located in my newly adapted hometown, Zedelgem).
I brought my camera along to document the lunch and couldn’t resist to share a couple of photos and a short review with you.

As its predecessor, pop-up restaurant Yellow, failed to impress me, I was a bit reluctant at first. The menu is quite different though as it is centered around tapas. It is worth mentioning, though, that the dynamic duo has joined forces with an importer of Spanish food and products, which is represented throughout the whole menu, wine included.

Since we headed there during lunch, we were offered their lunch formula: 4 different tapas – 1 main dish to share – dessert & coffee.
The tapas turned out to be a winner, as was the main dish: a sea bass shared per four persons. I really liked the concept of sharing the food, it’s a different approach and it somehow works.
But forget about the tapas and the sea bass. I will forget about those eventually. However, I don’t think I’ll be able to forget that dessert any time soon. Chocolate, olive oil and salt. It was Wim Ballieu who learned me about combining chocolate and salt a couple of years ago and I have felt nothing but love for this combination ever since. I was lucky to be seated next to a colleague who doesn’t care even the slightest bit for chocolate. I do have to admit that I even had trouble sharing this dish with just one other person (instead of two). It was that good.

If you’re looking to have lunch/dinner in the Bruges area with a group of friends or family, I would highly recommend L.E.S.S. I think four to five tapas per person would be perfect, but be aware of the price tag when opting for à la carte.

Allow me to mention the one (big) downside of L.E.S.S. though: the restaurant is closed on Saturdays. Talking about a missed opportunity here…
