When I started working there we would go to lunch every Friday. Hip and trendy as we are we jumped on the bandwagon once everyone was into sports and dieting and I guess we also saved a penny or two.
Yet, sharing food equals bonding. While we spend about eight hours each at the office, I think it’s also nice to know the face behind the colleague, if you know what I mean.
A couple of months ago we launched a new initiative: every first Friday of the month we would organise some kind of lunch: pizza delivery, bagel delivery, burger lunch at Ellis Gourmet Burger… We are always looking for new lunch spots in Bruges and that’s when colleague Julie stumbled upon PiekNiek.
PiekNiek is a college business project launched by four Howest students as part of their entrepreneur class. The idea behind it is a lunch box filled with local goods. I must admit that I already knew half of the partners they work with and I know for one that a colleague or two were a bit sceptical towards the content of the box, once we opened them, we knew we made the right choice!
First of all: kudos to the two guys who arranged for us to pick up our boxes on Friday and even delivered them at work (the boxes are huge: you need a car here).
Next: think two blankets, a group of colleagues and a box of wonderful food and I must say we had the most excellent picknick.
The box comes at 30 euros and is to be shared, so you would need an even number of participants (that’s a bit of downside in my opinion). While one could think this is quite expensive, I found 15 euros more or less a fair price for all the stuff I got: I hardly got to eat at night.
Are you in for a picknick box as well? Then hurry up, because the partnership ends by the end of May. With two long weekends coming up before the end of the month, I think this is the excellent opportunity to welcome summer.
That looks like SO much fun! And those boxes are a great idea.
It was so much fun indeed! I (not so) secretly hope they’ll continue their service after the school project ends.
