When I first heard about Hugh Laurie taking up a singing career, I was a bit sceptic. However, I soon forgot about the scepticism once I listened to his debut album Let Them Talk. When I learned that he was releasing a new album this year, Didn’t It Rain, I was eager to see him and The Copper Bottom Band live. The latter happened earlier this week at the Cirque Royal in Brussels. The husband (who is very much into blues and happily tagged along) and I agreed that this was the best live show we’ve seen this year (and one of the best ever). Hugh knows how to entertain the audience (he’s an actor after all), but he doesn’t steal the spotlight at all. The backing vocals sure had their fair share of fame during the evening, which I can only applaud. By the end of the night the audience was dancing along to the tunes of Hugh and his Copper Bottom Band and I guess most of us left the venue with that Let the Good Times Roll feeling.
